Pedestrian injured in Glen Cove hit-run hospitalized

A pedestrian crossing a Glen Cove street suffered serious injuries after being struck Friday afternoon by a hit-and-run motorist, Glen Cove City police said.

The victim, a 63-year-old woman, has serious head and shoulder injuries and was taken to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, police said. Her injuries were not life threatening, police said. The victim's name was not released.

The pedestrian was crossing Cedar Swamp Road at Alexander Place when the vehicle hit her about 3:19 p.m., police said.

A witness followed the vehicle and was able to get a partial plate number, FJL, on a bluish-green, 1990s four-door Honda, police said. The car had tires with silver rims, police said.

Detectives want the public's help in finding the motorist, who appeared to be a female with her hair in a ponytail.
