A 53-year-old man was struck and killed by an SUV early Tuesday morning in Elmont, Nassau police said.

The man, who was not identified, was hit by a 2014 Honda CR-V driven by a 71-year-old woman headed north on Elmont Road near School Road around 4:33 a.m.

The pedestrian was in the roadway at the time, police said. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene, police said. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
