Pedestrian killed in Hicksville
A woman was killed as she crossed a street in Hicksville on Saturday evening, Nassau police said.
Leema Karnati, 48, of Hicksville, was crossing Newbridge Road near Elmira Street, at a place without a traffic signal or crosswalk, at about 6 p.m. when she was struck by a 1992 Lincoln driving south in the left lane of Newbridge Road, police said.
Karnati was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead about a half-hour later, police said.
Police did not suspect any criminality, but the investigation was ongoing.
