Pedestrian killed in New Hyde Park identified
Nassau police identified a 75-year-old woman struck by a car and killed while crossing Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park Friday as Joan Van Grembergen of Bellerose Manor.
The accident occurred at about 6:45 p.m. Friday when Van Grembergen and another woman, age 80, were crossing from north to south in front of 214 Jericho Tpke., police said. They were hit by a 2003 Nissan Xterra, police said. Both women were taken to a hospital by the New Hyde Park Fire Department.
The 80-year-old, who was not identified by police, suffered a broken femur. Police said the driver, identified only as an 18-year-old Garden City resident, is not facing charges.
