A 70-year-old pedestrian was in critical condition after being struck Monday afternoon in Merrick by a school bus that had been involved in a crash with a pickup truck, Nassau police said.

Police have not released the name or hometown of the male pedestrian.

The 2019 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by a 61-year-old man and the school bus, which had no passengers, collided about 12:30 p.m. at Merrick Avenue and Benson Lane, police said in a statement Tuesday. The crash caused the school bus to jump over a sidewalk and hit the 70-year-old man, police said. The school bus then hit Merrick Park Cleaners and Tailors, located at 36 Merrick Ave.

The 63-year-old male school bus driver and pickup truck driver were both treated for minor injuries and released from a hospital.

The Nassau police Motor Carrier unit responded to inspect the bus and the truck; the Town of Hempstead Building Department responded to inspect the building, which has been boarded up, police said.

No criminality is suspected at this time, police said in the statement.
