Pedestrian seriously hurt in Freeport accident
First Squad detectives are investigating a car accident Thursday night in Freeport that left a pedestrian seriously injured.
The pedestrian, an unidentified 57-year-old woman, was trying to cross West Merrick Road, from north to south, at Elm Place when she was hit at 7:46 p.m. by an eastbound 2008 Nissan Altima driven by an unidentified 58-year-old woman, Nassau County police said early Friday.
Merrick/Bellmore Emergency Medical Service unit transported the unconscious victim to a hospital, where she was listed in serious but stable condition.
"Detectives report no apparent criminality at this time," police said in the Friday news release. "The vehicle has been impounded for brake and safety checks."
