A pedestrian has serious injuries after being struck Wednesday afternoon by a motorist in Great Neck, an accident that shut down westbound Route 25A for hours, Nassau police said.

The accident happened about 12:13 p.m. near Great Neck Road, and the victim, a woman who suffered head trauma, was taken to a hospital, police said.

The driver stayed at the scene, and no apparent crime was involved, police said.

Officers had closed off westbound lanes of Route 25A, also known as Northern Boulevard, to gather evidence and document the accident scene. The lanes were open by 4:40 p.m., police said.

The pedestrian's condition and other details were not immediately available, police said.
