Pedestrian critical in Jericho Turnpike crash where another man died this month, police say

A driver struck and critically hurt a pedestrian Wednesday evening in Garden City Park who was crossing Jericho Turnpike "outside of a crosswalk," according to the Nassau County Police Department.
Information about the pedestrian was not released except that he was a 44-year-old man.
It was the second time this month that a pedestrian was struck in the immediate vicinity. The Feb. 16 crash left a 56-year-old man dead, police said.
Wednesday's crash happened about 7:20 p.m. on Jericho Turnpike near Nassau Boulevard, when a 58-year-old man driving west in a 2016 Ford struck the man, the department wrote in a news release.
The driver stayed at the crash scene; the pedestrian was brought to a hospital in critical condition, the release said.
The release did not provide further details.
The incident comes 10 days after a 56-year-old man was fatally struck while crossing Jericho Turnpike in Garden City Park, also near Nassau Boulevard, police said
That man's identity was not released.
