Pedestrian struck, killed in Freeport
A pedestrian crossing Atlantic Avenue in Freeport was struck and fatally injured by a passing car early Wednesday, Nassau County police said.
There was no apparent criminality and there were no charges lodged against the 73-year-old driver, whose name was not released police said.
The victim, whose name was not released, was walking south across the roadway about 1:10 a.m. when he was hit by a westbound 2013 Hyundai, police said. He suffered severe head trauma and was pronounced dead at South Nassau Communities Hospital at 3:33 a.m., police said.
The Hyundai was impounded for a safety inspection and the investigation is continuing, police said.
