Person hit by LIRR train in Baldwin
A man at the Baldwin station fell onto the tracks Monday where apparently he was struck by a westbound Long Island Rail Road train as it was arriving at the station, a spokesman for the commuter service said.
The man, who is in his 30s, was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside with nonlife-threatening injuries, spokesman Sam Zambuto said. Zambuto said he did not have any other information on the man's condition.
The incident happened at about 5:25 a.m. as the 4:39 a.m. train from Babylon, due to arrive at Penn Station at 5:55 a.m., was pulling into Baldwin. That train was canceled, and commuters were accommodated by the 5:18 a.m. train from Wantagh, Zambuto said.
The incident caused delays of 15 to 20 minutes on the Babylon branch and also canceled three westbound trains, Zambuto said.
One eastbound train was about a half-hour late, he said.
MTA police are investigating.
