Person hit by train at Merillon Avenue station
A person was hit by a train Wednesday night at the Merillon Avenue station of the Long Island Rail Road in Garden City, officials said, causing delays of about 30 minutes.
A Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokeswoman did not know the condition, age or gender of the person who was struck at 9:15 p.m. by a train headed to Jamaica from Oyster Bay.
One of the train's car reached the station platform, allowing LIRR riders to leave, the spokeswoman said.
About six trains were held for about 30 minutes. Trains started moving again at 9:51 p.m., but there were residual delays on the Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma, Montauk and Oyster Bay branches.
No further information was immediately available.
