Person killed by LIRR train in Carle Place
A 54-year-old man was struck and killed by a morning train Wednesday in Carle Place, a Long Island Rail Road spokesman said.
The fatal accident occurred at the west end of the eastbound station platform at about 9:35 a.m., officials said.
Other than his age, the man has not been identified by police.
The accident is being investigated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police, railroad spokesman Sal Arena said.
The incident caused a temporary suspension of all service between Hicksville and Mineola, officials said. Trains are moving through the area on a single track, causing delays of up to one hour, Arena said.
Those disruptions affected service to and from Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson through most of the morning.
It was not immediately clear what train was involved in the accident. Circumstances surrounding the fatal incident also were not immediately clear.
