At least one person was hospitalized after a driver fled a routine traffic stop early Tuesday morning on Skunks Misery Road in Lattingtown, police said.

It was not immediately clear if the accident occurred during an active pursuit. Nassau County police said Glen Cove police were involved in the original traffic stop, but Glen Cove police refused to comment.

The accident involved a 1996 Audi that crashed into two trees on Ludlam Lane in Locust Valley at about 2:30 a.m.

The crash scene was just east of where Skunks Misery Road and Lattingtown Road merge. The attempted traffic stop occurred earlier, Nassau police said. They said a Glen Cove officer attempted to make the stop for vehicle and traffic law violations, but said the driver refused to stop.

Three people were in the vehicle that crashed but it was not clear if the other two people were injured.

It also was not clear if anyone had been arrested.

Nassau police said the vehicle was impounded by Glen Cove police.
