Eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway in Jericho were closed for more than six hours early Wednesday because of a multivehicle crash, authorities said.
Nassau County police said in a traffic advisory eastbound lanes between exits 40 and 41 were reopened at 6:57 a.m.
Informny.com, the state Department of Transportation website, said the crash happened at 12:39 a.m.
A police spokeswoman said the delay in reopening the expressway was because a sand truck needed to help cover a fuel spill was not working correctly.
"It took some time to get another truck to the scene," she said.
The accident involving an overturned box truck, a tractor trailer and a car resulted in two minor injuries. Neither of the injured needed to be hospitalized, she said.
