Police: Accident shuts North Jerusalem Avenue in East Meadow

A garbage truck driving through a road construction site damaged a utility pole, knocking down wires and forcing an all-day closure of North Jerusalem Avenue in East Meadow on Wednesday, authorities said.
Nassau County police said there were no injuries reported in the crash that occurred about 10:30 a.m.
The pole was broken in half and 35 customers lost power until about 6 p.m., when repairs were completed, said Elizabeth Flagler, spokeswoman for PSEG Long Island.
"There were wires all over the road," she said.
A new pole had to be installed, then cable, telephone and electric wires strung up before reopening the road, which was closed between Berfond Place and Marion Drive, authorities said.
"It was quite a job," Flagler said, adding crews worked as fast as they could.
A police spokeswoman did not have information on why the driver crashed, but said no charges were filed.
