Officers responding to a 911 call of a man with a gun arrested a New Cassel man Tuesday after surrounding his mother's home, police said.
Nassau County police said James Gibson, 33, of 7 Dogwood Lane, was arrested after he surrendered to police who had surrounded the house.
Police said a loaded black and silver Taurus .45-caliber pistol and a fully loaded magazine were seized following a search of the home, which is owned by Gibson's mother.
The incident began when a 911 caller reported a man with a gun on Maplewood Drive.
Police said Gibson spotted the responding officers and fled through yards on Dogwood Lane, then entered the home. Officers surrounded the home, and Gibson surrendered without incident at 2:34 p.m., police said.
A search of the house turned up the pistol and clip.
Gibson was charged with second-degree criminal use of a firearm, second-degree and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing, police said.
He was scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
