An armed robber shot a pizza store clerk in the back as he ran from a Uniondale store on Sunday evening, Nassau police said.

Two men carrying handguns walked into a Papa John's pizza shop on Hempstead Turnpike at about 9:10 p.m. and demanded cash, police said. As a male counter clerk ran out the front door, one of the men shot him in the back. The other robber then took cash from the register while the shooter took property from the wounded man. Both fled out the back door onto Gilroy Avenue, police said.

The wounded man was taken to Nassau University Medical Center. His condition is unknown.

Both suspects are described as males between 5'7" and 6 feet tall, wearing hoodies and pants.

Detectives ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
