A man with "scruffy" facial hair tried to rob a Valley Stream bank Tuesday morning, Nassau County police said.

He handed a note demanding money to a teller at Dime Savings Bank on Merrick Road about 9:40 a.m., police said.

But after several seconds, he ran out of the bank without getting any money and was last seen heading west on West Merrick Road, police said.

The suspect appeared to be in his 30s and was wearing a black jacket, a gray, hooded sweatshirt and eyeglasses, police said.

No injuries were reported, police said. There were five employees and no customers present at the time, police said.

Detectives ask anyone with information to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
