Speed was a factor in an accident that killed a Brooklyn motorcyclist Monday on the Southern State Parkway in North Valley Stream, State Police said.

Fayyaz Amir, 23, was operating a 2008 Yamaha at 1:38 p.m. westbound on the parkway near Exit 13, Central Avenue, "at a high rate of speed" when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and struck a concrete barrier on the north shoulder, police said in a news release.

Amir was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the parkway was closed for about two hours as they investigated.
