A Massapequa Park man was drunk when his boat rammed into the dock of a home early Tuesday in Massapequa and then left the scene, Nassau County police said.

Police said the home's owner, a 75-year-old woman, saw a Boston Whaler-type vessel strike her dock, causing about $1,000 in damage, at about 2:30 a.m.

After the boat left the scene, the woman called police.

A boat from the Nassau County Marine Bureau responded and conducted an investigation.

Marine Bureau officers arrested John McKnight, 36, of 1240 Lake Shore Dr., on charges of operating a vessel while intoxicated, failure to stop or report a boat accident and not having navigational lights on display.

McKnight is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.

A Nassau police spokesman said the arrest is the first since the department announced a crackdown one week ago on boaters who operate vessels while drinking.

Suffolk's Marine Bureau, which announced a similar crackdown, has made six arrests for boating while intoxicated since the beginning of the year, including one involving a fatality.
