A Queens man was arrested Saturday afternoon after he drove his sport utility vehicle while intoxicated, striking and killing a pedestrian in Elmont, Nassau County police said.

Police said Brian Dudley, 41, of Laurelton, was driving a 2006 Toyota Highlander north on Elmont Boulevard at Cerenzia Boulevard about 3:30 p.m. when he hit a 61-year-old man who was crossing the street.

The man, who was fatally injured, was pronounced dead at a hospital, police said. His name was not released pending notification of his family.

Police said Dudley was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He was arrested and charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content over 0.08 percent and two counts of third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle. His vehicle was impounded for brake and safety checks.

At Dudley's arraignment on Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead, he was ordered held on $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond. Dudley is due back in court on Tuesday.
