Nassau police appeared to be leaving a North Wantagh neighborhood that they had cordoned off for hours on Sunday.

Police closed off the area around Lawrence and Bruce drives after receiving a call at 8:56 a.m. reporting a burglary in progress.

Several neighbors had stood outside police lines set up, waiting to return to their homes.

Brigitte LeBlanc, 43, lives on Lawrence Drive just outside of the cordoned area. She stood outside her house on Sunday, hoping for information, like many of her neighbors.

"I feel very scared," LeBlanc said. "This is a frightening situation."

By 3 p.m., one of the blockades, at Alan and Lawrence drives, had been lifted and many of the police cars had left the area.

No additional information was immediately available.
