A passenger was killed early Tuesday in a one-vehicle crash on the Northern State Parkway in Westbury when the intoxicated driver lost control, State Police said.

Christopher Gallina, 23, of Levittown, was pronounced dead at Winthrop-University Hospital shortly after the 4 a.m. crash near Exit 32, Post Avenue, police said.

The driver, Brian Friedrichs, 22, of Levittown, was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated, police said. Arraignment information was not immediately available.

In the crash, the car, a Mazda, flipped over several times on the westbound roadway, ejecting both men, police said.

Gallina may have been struck by another vehicle after he was thrown out of the Mazda, police said.

The crash closed the westbound parkway for about seven hours, including during the morning rush. Lanes reopened about 10:40 a.m., according to the State Transportation Department.

State Police ask anyone with information to contact the Valley Stream office at 516-561-8492.
