Police: Crash kills driver under influence
A driver killed in a Fourth of July crash in Plainview was driving under the influence of alcohol, police said Tuesday.
The victim, identified by Nassau County police as Michael Sklarsky, 51, of Massapequa, was driving "under the influence of an alcoholic beverage" when he crashed into another car Monday at 8:59 p.m.
The crash occurred on the southbound Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway, police said.
Police said Sklarsky was driving south in the right lane in his 1992 Honda when he struck a 2011 Hyundai a woman, 62, was driving in the center lane. The woman, who was not identified by police, was not injured in the crash.
Police said Sklarsky's car went up an embankment, struck a tree and crashed through a fence before finally coming to a stop on West Lane Drive.
Sklarsky died Tuesday at 6:04 a.m., police said.
