Video surveillance from the Wantagh school district helped Nassau County police nab several youths after graffiti was found painted on district buildings over the weekend, police and the district said.

In a statement late Monday, the school district said the vandalism was at the high school, middle school and Wantagh Elementary School. A spokeswoman for the district said the buildings were vandalized with mostly red, silver and black paint.

A police spokesman called the graffiti "extensive."

Police did not say how many youths were in custody or if anyone had been arrested. A spokesman Tuesday said no more information on the case was being released.

"The district was able to supply law enforcement officials with surveillance video obtained from the schools' security cameras and continues to fully cooperate with authorities during their ongoing investigation," the district's statement said.
