Police: Driver who ran red light was drunk
An East Meadow man stopped Wednesday on suspicion of running a red light on Hempstead Turnpike faces a drunken driving charge, State Police said.
At about 3:40 p.m., a green Ford pickup went through a red light on the westbound side of Hempstead Turnpike just before the entrance to the Bethpage Parkway, police said.
After pulling over the drive, John Lozito, 53, of Noble Street, troopers said they detected a strong odor of alcohol.
Lozito failed sobriety tests and was arrested on a charge of DWI, according to a news release. He produced a positive breath-analyzer sample of .21 percent, troopers said.
He is charged with DWI and traffic violations and was due to appear in First District Court in Hempstead on May 19, police said.
