Police: Fight leads to steak knife assault

UPDATE: On Aug. 22, 2013, Nassau District Court dismissed the charge against James Theoharides by adjournment in contemplation of dismissal, court records show. The case has been sealed, according to court records.  

An argument between three Massapequa men escalated into assault with a steak knife early Saturday morning, Nassau police said.

After James Theoharides, 20, of 14 Cedar Dr., and Kaleb Fink, 18, of 16 Frankel Rd., argued over the phone about another friend, Theoharides and Ian Walsh, 19, of 11 Harbour Lane drove to his house at 3 a.m. and demanded he come outside, police said.

After Fink emerged with the steak knife, police said, Walsh punched him in the face and Fink began waving the knife, striking his opponents in the arm and stomach.

They fled with minor injuries. Fink went back inside, slept for several hours and then called the police, who charged him with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police charged Theoharides and Walsh with assault. Walsh was also found to have an open bench warrant.

A police spokeswoman said she had no details about the original argument.

All three were scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court, Hempstead.
