Police: Garden City man admits strangling mother
A Garden City man, who called 911 Thursday to say he had strangled his mother, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
Nassau County police have not released the identity of the 56-year-old man or his 88-year-old victim, pending notification of next of kin.
They said the man was transported to Nassau University Medical Center after police arrived at the home -- and found he had attempted suicide by slashing his wrists.
Police said the man called 911 at about 8 p.m. “and told them he had strangled his mother.”
Garden City Police responded to the scene. Police have not released an address or street where the incident occurred.
They said arriving officers found the 88-year-old woman dead and said the man “was found at the scene to have self-inflicted slash wounds to his wrists.” Police said the man was arrested at 8:30 p.m.
No other details were immediately available. No arraignment information was available.
