A 35-year-old Hempstead man was arrested Sunday afternoon and charged with the murder of a 28-year-old man earlier this month in Hempstead.
Nassau County police said Luis Moreno, of 36 Ormond St., was found by Hempstead police officers on Clinton Street in Hempstead at 2:50 p.m. and was arrested without incident. He was charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Darwin A. Hernandez of Hempstead, whose body was found March 2 behind the Laundry Palace at 416 Clinton St. -- just feet from where police arrested Moreno.
It was not immediately clear what led police to Moreno.
Investigators had asked anyone with information regarding the murder to call Crime Stoppers, but it was not clear if that played a role in the arrest.
Moreno is scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
