A Hempstead man stabbed his neighbor in the abdomen Sunday after the two men got into an argument, Nassau County police said.

Police arrested Joseph Wright, 20, of 19 Miller Place, at about 8:15 p.m. on charges of first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Wright and a neighbor, a 31-year-old man, started to argue about 3:15 p.m., according to police. The argument "escalated," police said in a news release, and Wright got a knife and stabbed his neighbor in the lower abdomen, "causing an evisceration."

The victim was taken in a private car to a nearby hospital where he was admitted, police said. Wright fled the scene but was arrested later without incident.
