State Police have identified a man found dead Sunday in a wooded area off Meadowbrook Parkway in Freeport.

Jose Garrido-Lobo, 33, was the man Freeport police discovered off the southbound lanes of the parkway and westbound Sunrise Highway, according to a news release from State Police Monday. He was believed to be homeless and living in the area where his body was discovered, the release said.

Garrido-Lobo was drinking with two friends Saturday night, police said. The friends returned to the wooded area Sunday morning, some time around 11:28 a.m., and found him unresponsive, the release said.

He was pronounced dead by Nassau County emergency medical technicians and an initial investigation revealed no indications of a crime, the release said.

State Police said the cause of death is pending an autopsy.
