Police ID body found in Hempstead park

Nassau County police on Sunday identified the man who was found dead early Saturday in a Hempstead park.

Jose R. Valleja, 24, who had no known address, was found at Kennedy Park, 336 Greenwich St., shortly after 1 a.m., authorities said.

Detectives say Valleja suffered severe trauma to his neck and head, causing the fatal wounds. Further details weren't available.

Valleja was taken to the Nassau County Medical Examiner's morgue to determine the cause of death.
