The victim of a homicide Wednesday evening in Hempstead has been identified as a resident of the community.

Nassau County police detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of James Warren, 29, police said Thursday in a news release.

Hempstead police responded to a shots fired call at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the rear of 600 Fulton Ave. and found Warren "lying on the sidewalk," police said in a Thursday morning news release.

Warren was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later, police said.

Anyone with information about the slaying is urged to anonymously call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
