Nassau County police are searching for the person who fired five shots at a driver on a residential street in Elmont in the middle of the day Wednesday.

Police said the victim was driving a gray BMW west on Byron Avenue at 1:32 p.m. when someone in an eastbound gray Nissan fired "approximately five gunshots" at the BMW, striking the car.

It was not immediately known if there were any injuries because both cars fled right after the shooting, police said.

Police are asking that anyone with information contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-224-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
