Police were called to Nassau University Medical Center on Sunday after a 21-year-old man sought treatment there for a gunshot wound, and officers learned that he had been shot that day at about 1:30 p.m. on a New Cassel street corner.

"An investigation revealed the victim was at the corner of Roman Avenue and Costar Street when several rounds were fired by an unknown subject(s)," Third Squad detectives said in a news release.

The victim was admitted to the hospital for treatment of the wound, which was not considered to be life-threatening, police said.

Detectives ask anyone with information about the shooting to make a confidential call to Nassau County Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS.
