A man was hit in the leg Friday afternoon by a bullet that may have gone into his other leg also, Hempstead Village police said.

The victim, 22, was shot in a residential area of Wellesley Street near James L.L. Burrell Avenue at about 2:50 p.m., police said.

ShotSpotter, a system that warns authorities of sounds of bullets, first alerted police and that was followed by several 911 calls, authorities said.

The victim was found on the street and taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he said little to investigators about what happened, police said.

Two shell casings were found at the scene, police said.

Other details were not immediately available as village police and Nassau detectives gathered evidence.
