Police investigate single-vehicle crash in Baldwin

A car struck a utility pole early Thursday on Grand Avenue in Baldwin with such impact it not only snapped the pole -- but ripped the engine from the vehicle.
The single-car crash occurred on northbound Grand between Joy Boulevard and Lenox Road at 1:21 a.m., Nassau County police said. No one has been charged, though the investigation is continuing.
Photos from the scene show the car, a Volkswagen Golf, up against the curb in the southbound lanes of the road. A wheel assembly, as well as the engine and other debris, were visible in the street.
