Metropolitan Transportation Authority police are investigating after a swastika was found etched into a rain shelter at the Long Island Rail Road station in Lawrence on Monday, an LIRR spokesman said.

Salvatore Arena said MTA police were at the scene Monday and removed the hate symbol from the rain shelter at the train's platform. There are no security cameras at the Lawrence station, Arena said.

Nassau police said they received a call at 12:55 p.m. that the swastika had been found etched into the Plexiglas of the rain shelter.
