Police: Man approached boys in Elmont
Two 14-year-old boys told police they were approached by a man in a sport utility vehicle in separate incidents within the past week or so in Elmont.
Nassau County police said they are searching for the man and asking the public for information.
The first incident occurred on Oct. 13 when a man driving a small, boxy, dark-colored SUV with lightly tinted windows slowed down on Doherty Avenue and asked a 14-year-old boy to get into his car, police said. The boy fled. Police said the man turned onto Surprise Street and drove away.
The incident occurred at about 7 p.m., police said.
Six days later, a man in what police called “a similarly described vehicle” approached another 14-year-old boy — this time on Benson Avenue — about 6:30 p.m.
He asked the boy to get into his car, police said. The boy fled. The driver turned onto Johnson Avenue and drove away
No one was injured in either incident, police said.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the events to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
