Police: Man approached boys in Elmont
Two 14-year-old boys told police they were approached by a man in a sport utility vehicle in separate incidents within the past week or so near an Elmont elementary school.
"It's quite possibly the same person" who approached the boys, said Det. Lt. Kevin Smith.
The first incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Oct. 13 when a man driving a small dark-colored SUV with lightly tinted windows slowed down on Doherty Avenue and asked a 14-year-old boy to get into his car, police said. The boy fled. Police said the man turned left onto Surprise Street and drove away.
Six days later, a man in what police called "a similarly described vehicle" approached another 14-year-old boy - this time on Benson Avenue - about 6:30 p.m.
He asked the boy to get into his car, police said. The boy fled. The driver turned onto Johnson Avenue and drove away.
No one was injured in either incident, police said.
The driver was described as a thin man of medium build, with short dark hair. .
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the events to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
