Police: Man beat, robbed woman in W. Hempstead parking lot
A Long Beach man faces robbery and assault charges after allegedly beating a woman and trying to steal $200 from her Thursday in the parking lot of a West Hempstead White Castle restaurant, Nassau County police said.
Fifth Squad detectives said Antwan Brown, 24, of 9 Oak Ct., argued with the woman at about 3:55 a.m. while they were sitting in a car in the lot at 19 Hempstead Tpke.
Brown tried to take the woman's bag, which contained $200, police said, and repeatedly beat her about the face and head before fleeing the car. She had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Police found the man a short time later and said he struggled with officers at the Fifth Precinct after he was arrested. One officer had facial injuries and was treated and released from a hospital.
Brown is charged with robbery and assault. He will be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
