A Hempstead man stopped on suspicion of speeding on the Southern State Parkway Thursday morning in Hempstead faces drunken driving charges, State Police said.

Izzet Cakici, 42, of 251 Jackson St., was driving a black BMW at a high rate of speed east in Baldwin near Exit 20, Grand Avenue, just after midnight when he was pulled over, police said.

A trooper noticed a smell of alcohol after the stop, and Cakici failed sobriety tests and registered a reading of .11 percent on a breath-analyzer, police said.

He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and several traffic violations, police said.

He is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Hempstead on Nov. 19.
