Police: Man critically injures wife in Roosevelt shooting

An off-duty New York City correction captain shot and critically injured his wife during a domestic assault in Roosevelt, Nassau County police said Sunday.
Police said Brian Martin, 36, shot his 39-year-old wife once in the face shortly before 2:30 p.m. Saturday at their William Street home.
The woman, who was not identified, suffered injuries and fractures to her face, police said. She was taken to a hospital, where she was listed in critical but stable condition, police said.
Martin is a captain with the city's Department of Correction and works at Rikers Island, according to a person familiar with the investigation. After his arrest, Martin was suspended. His wife also works as a correction officer at Rikers, according to the source.
Martin was arrested at his home and charged with first-degree assault and criminal use of a firearm. At his arraignment Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead, he was ordered held on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
He is due back in court Tuesday.
The gun was found at the scene. An attorney for Martin could not be reached for comment.
