Police: Man dies after being hit by vehicle on Sunrise Highway in Freeport

Nassau County police's Homicide Squad said no criminality is suspected in a crash Tuesday that killed a pedestrian in Freeport.
Police said the victim, a man, 53, was attempting to cross Sunrise Highway at North Long Beach Road at about 8:59 p.m.
The victim, whose name is being withheld pending notification of family, was crossing from the south side of the roadway when he was hit in the westbound lane by a 2013 Subaru that was driven by a man, 49.
The victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow where he was pronounced dead at 9:43 p.m.
A brake and safety check was performed on the vehicle at the scene, police said.
