Police: Man drove on LIE at 100 mph-plus
A West Babylon man raced his Nissan faster than 100 mph Thursday on the Long Island Expressway in Old Westbury, weaving in and out of traffic and endangering other drivers as he came close to hitting them, the Nassau County Highway Patrol Bureau said.
Nigel Recass, 28, of 412 Herzel Blvd., is charged with reckless driving and other traffic violations after being arrested at about 11:25 p.m. near Exit 39, the Glen Cove Road exit, police said.
Recass' car also was impounded, police said.
Recass was observed driving east near Exit 36, Searingtown Road, going 100 mph or faster, driving to prevent other motorists from passing him and changing lanes without signaling -- which caused other motorists to brake suddenly, police said in a news release.
Recass also was charged with having an inadequate muffler and obstructed registration plates.
He is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Hempstead on Aug. 19.
