A man escaped from an armed robber in Uniondale on Friday evening, according to Nassau County police.

The would-be victim was walking south on Nostrand Avenue at 5:20 p.m. when a man approached him from behind, displayed a handgun in his waistband and told him to empty his pockets, police said.

When the robber turned to look behind him, the victim ran away. The robber then fled in an unknown direction without taking anything, police said. No one was injured.

The suspect was wearing a black mask, a black hooded sweatshirt with a white "ECKO" logo, blue jeans and white-and-brown sneakers, police said.

Nassau detectives asked that anyone with information call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
