A 45-year-old Glen Cove man was arrested Wednesday and charged with illegally collecting unemployment benefits, State Police said.

Police said the arrest of Gregory Diaz followed a lengthy investigation by the New York State Department of Labor.

That investigation determined Diaz illegally collected $8,855 in unemployment benefits in 2009, according to police.

Diaz was charged with third-degree grand larceny and was scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
