A man seen looking into vehicles early Tuesday in Baldwin was arrested after a chase and was found with five stolen credit cards, Nassau police said.
Thomas Pearl, 48, of Freeport, had been peering into vehicles near Grand Terrace and Woodside avenues shortly before 2:45 a.m., police said.
Police officers searching the area spotted him a block or so away on Clyde Roade, east of Forest Avenue, but the suspect ran off, police said.
Officers, along with a police dog, mounted a search and found him nearby in the backyard of a home on Circle Drive West, authorities said.
Pearl, of 121 Washburn Ave., is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and third-degree criminal trespass.
Police said he also possessed stolen mail and items from a Pier 1 Imports store.
First Precinct detectives ask anyone who may have been a victim in this case to contact them at 516-573-6153.
