Police: Man robs Elmont gas station
A Queens man was arrested Sunday evening moments after he robbed an Elmont gas station at gunpoint, police said.
Juan Hernandez, 24, of 88-50 162nd St. in Jamaica Hills, was charged with second-degree robbery after the hold up at the Shell gas station on Hempstead Turnpike at 5:05 p.m., Nassau County police said. Police said both the stolen cash and a weapon were recovered during the arrest.
Police said no one was injured during the robbery.
Police said Hernandez approached the 19-year-old clerk, flashed "what appeared to be a black handgun" from his waistband, pointed it at the employee and demanded cash.
Handed money from the register, police said Hernandez put it and the gun into a blue bag and fled the scene.
The employee called 911 and police said a description of Hernandez was broadcast. Responding officers located and arrested Hernandez following a brief search of the area.
Hernandez is scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
