People fishing in the waters off Lido Beach discovered a man's body Friday morning, Nassau County police said.

The body was floating facedown in the ocean when it was spotted at 11 a.m. about 11/2 miles south of the beach, police said.

Police had earlier said the body was recovered off Long Beach.

Police and the U.S. Coast Guard recovered the body, and once on shore, the man was pronounced dead at 12:30 p.m., police said.

There was no immediate identification. The victim was described by police as a black male who was balding, about 55 to 60 years old, dressed in a blue, buttoned shirt, red plaid pajama pants and black slip-on shoes.

The body was taken to the Nassau County medical examiner's office, and Fourth Precinct detectives are investigating.

Further details were not available. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477.
